Media Release: Donnie ‘Dotaman’ MacLeod’s DIY show returns to BBC ALBA

DIY LE DONNIE S3 - donnie_macleod_workshop Jan 2017

DIY with Donnie / DIY le Donnie

BBC ALBA, first episode: Thursday 16 February, 9pm

POPULAR Gaelic TV personality, Donnie ‘Dotaman’ MacLeod, returns with another series on BBC ALBA showcasing his DIY skills!

New to this series, Donnie heads to Argyll where he participates in the biggest DIY challenge that many will undertake as he follows a new house being built; lending a hand wherever required, from screeding the concrete foundations to fixing slates on the roof.

Outside and inside, Donnie will be learning about new materials and brushing up on his own skills.

Following on from the success of taking on work in contributors’ homes in the last series, Donnie continues to tackle DIY projects in the community. This time, his van is packed full of tools as he tackles DIY challenges the length and breadth of Lewis and Harris.

Donnie starts at MacAulay College near Stornoway, where a Belfast sink is waiting to be fitted, but he needs the students to help clear the barn before progress can be made. Donnie also turns the kitchen upside down as pipes and cupboards have to be moved in order to install a dishwasher.

In Tarbert, Harris, a neglected corner of the garden at Harris House is in need of some attention.

Although Donnie doesn’t count gardening as one of his talents, he takes on the challenge! Where thistles and dock leaves abound, he brings about a transformation. A flower-box, a deck and a bird table will be installed so the residents can spend time watching garden birds and admiring the lovely flowers.

Qualified meteorologist, Eddie Graham needs help after winter storms have battered his weather-vane to the ground. Donnie has to create an iron bracket for the weather-vane to be re-installed; something which will withstand gales and wild weather. As he’s in the garden doing that, Donnie spies some more improvements he can make to aid Eddie and his wife, June.

Also in this series, Donnie transforms a workstation into a linen cupboard at Bethesda Hospice in Stornoway, he intalls a mezzanine loft in a roof space in Laxdale, and builds a barbecue with high expectations of good weather!

The third series of DIY with Donnie / DIY le Donnie comprises six episodes and will be broadcast on BBC ALBA starting on Thursday 16 February at 9pm.

The series is produced and directed by Colin Macleod for BBC Gàidhlig and is funded by MG ALBA.
