CONRAD Colman, one of the world’s top sailors, is headed for Scottish waters this week to speak at a key industry event.
In 2016, the yachtsman became the first New Zealander to compete in the famous Vendée Globe single-handed around-the-world race.
Conrad will be bringing his wit and wisdom to The Beacon Arts Centre in Greenock on Thursday March 23rd, after Gordon Ritchie Management successfully secured his services.
The intrepid sailor is expected to lift the lid on some of his most hair-raising adventures which include becoming only the third sailor in history to complete the Vendée Globe under jury rig, a makeshift sail he was forced to fashion himself while at sea.
After dismasting, Conrad ran out of food and was obliged to complete the race on survival rations pillaged from his life raft.
Despite this, setback he pressed on, completing the race after 110 days at sea.
Conrad will be recounting that life-changing experience as well as discussing the construction of his revolutionary yacht, powered entirely by natural energy, at Sail Scotland’s Marine Tourism Conference on Thursday March 23rd.
Gordon Ritchie, of Gordon Ritchie Management, said: “I’m delighted that Conrad has agreed to come to Scotland.
“Conrad has first-hand knowledge of what it’s like to sail the world’s roughest seas and to compete in the sort of conditions that most sailors would baulk at.
“He’s a hugely respected figures within the industry and his keynote address promise to be inspirational, educational and full of actionable insights.”
