JAMES Glossop, award-winning photographer for The Times in Scotland, has retained his UK Picture Editors’ Guild Awards Business Photographer of the Year crown.

The prestigious annual awards recognise outstanding photography from the world of news, royalty, sport, business, fashion and entertainment.

Glossop, who is based in Edinburgh, landed the £500 prize at the awards ceremony on Monday (27 March 2017) at the Honourable Artillery Company HQ in London.

Glossop’s winning portfolio shows chimney sweeps, boat builders, engineers and blacksmiths at work.

The chair of the judging panel, Ian Day, assistant editor of the Yorkshire Post, said: “Grey men in grey suits? Not in this category. The entries demonstrated creativity and imagination to make the image jump out of the page.‘’

Sophie Batterbury, picture editor of the i newspaper, said: “The standard of the photography in this category was very high. It was possibly the hardest of the 11 categories to judge.”

Magnus Llewellin, editor of The Times in Scotland said: “We take our coverage of business very seriously and James Glossop’s outstanding work is a testimony to that commitment.”
