CONCERNS about cyber security were raised by the delegates at the Inspiring Growth conference in Edinburgh.

In a Q&A session, chaired by Laura Gordon, Thrive Digital’s CEO, Emil Stickland, took questions from Scottish business leaders who were looking to expand their international ecommerce but were having concerns about maintaining cyber security.

Emil told delegates of the importance of following best practice in maintaining cyber security.

Said Emil, at the event organised by The Scotsman Conferences: “Cyber security is a major concern for both customers and for UK businesses looking to sell and buy online.”

Emil said that vulnerabilities – such as not updating WordPress or legacy systems and plugins – could readily be exploited by hackers to access sensitive information, including customer credit card details.

He explained: “There is a perception that cyber criminals are targeting major ecommerce business platforms and banks, but the reality is that they are hacking the websites of businesses of all sizes.

“If you do not have suitable security policies, then your business is at risk.”
