BioQuarter

THE Edinburgh bioQuarter partnership has appointed David Ridd and Jennifer Thwaites as the first members of a newly-established programme team.

David takes up the role as business development, communications and marketing manager, whilst Jennifer has been appointed as collaboration and networking manager.

The Edinburgh bioQuarter is a partnership between Scottish Enterprise, City of Edinburgh Council, NHS Lothian and the University of Edinburgh.

David Ridd will lead marketing and promotion activity to position Edinburgh bioQuarter as a leading life sciences campus, with the aim of attracting new commercial tenants, research collaborations and other investment.

David joins from Scotland’s second largest health board, NHS Lothian, where he worked as external communications manager.

David said: “It is an exciting time to be joining the Edinburgh bioQuarter as part of its new programme team.

“This is a truly unique place which brings healthcare, academia and commercial life sciences companies together in one place. There are big plans for the site and I look forward to harnessing the partnership vision in order to achieve our ambitions.”

Jennifer Thwaites also joins Edinburgh bioQuarter from NHS Lothian, where she was project manager for the Royal Edinburgh Campus Redevelopment Team.

The collaboration and networking manager role will see Jennifer work with partners, customers and clients to foster more joined-up working relationships on site.

Jennifer said: “I’m delighted to be taking on this role as part of the new Edinburgh bioQuarter Programme Team. The Edinburgh bioQuarter is at a pivotal point in its development as a leading life sciences location, and I look forward to working with a range of partners to further the overarching vision for the site.”

Derek McCrindle, director of infrastructure, Scottish Enterprise, said: “We are delighted to have Jennifer and David on board, they will play a key role in shaping the partnership vision for Edinburgh bioQuarter.

“The Edinburgh bioQuarter is a fantastic example of what can be achieved in an industry when those operating in it come together. Building Nine, is currently the commercial hub of the site and is home to established life sciences companies, as well as smaller but growing incubator companies that could well be the next big thing in this industry.”

The Edinburgh bioQuarter is a life sciences campus based at Little France Road, Edinburgh.

The co-location of leading academic and clinical researcher alongside new and growing businesses provides a fantastic opportunity for collaborative working.

The site is currently home to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, Queen’s Medical Research Institute, MRC Centre for Regenerative Medicine and more than 20 life science companies based in building Nine.
