A MEMBER of staff from a leading safety training company is preparing to fly the flag for the North-east at the finals of Miss Scotland 2017.
Susan Walker, who works at Falck Safety Services UK (Falck), which currently has 35 training centres across the world, will be travelling to Glasgow for the finals of the competition, organised by The Catwalk Academy, on 24 August.
Miss Walker, 24, has worked as a training administrator at Falck, which delivers expert safety and survival training services across the offshore, wind and industrial sectors, for more than three years.
The specialist training firm has more than 200 Health and Safety and survival courses on offer, and in her role, Miss Walker, supports the Training Management Services (TMS) division at Falck’s facility in Montrose, handling documentation for delegates attending training courses.
The highly-experienced TMS team specialise in providing solutions for the management of client’s training requirements, supporting, organising and improving training at all levels and encouraging substantial cost and operational efficiencies.
After filling out an application form for Miss Scotland 2017, she juggled work commitments around attending an interview for the competition, before being named as a finalist.
Miss Walker, said: “I entered the competition in 2014 and made it to the top 25, and decided to enter again as this is the last year I could apply due to my age. I occasionally model for a bridal shop in Montrose, but I’ve never done modelling professionally. This time I have reached the final 15, which is a great achievement.
“My manager at Falck, Alison Barker, was the only person who knew about me applying, and she was ‘over the moon’ about me making it to the finals.”
Colin Leyden, managing director of Falck Safety Services UK, said: “Falck positively encourages and supports staff to get involved in different types of activities outside of work, and we are extremely proud of Susan for reaching the finals of the event.
“We wish her all the best when she flies the flag for the North-east in the final stage of the competition.”
