Media release: Search for the 2018 world champion Scotch Pie starts with ‘post a pie selfie’ appeal

HEMEDIA_SCOTTISH_BAKERS_01

SCOTTISH Bakers has announced the dates for the 19th World Championship Scotch Pie Awards and, to mark the start of this year’s search, Scottish Bakers is asking the public to ‘post a pie selfie’ of their perfect pie moment.

Pie fans are being asked to follow @ScotchPieAwards on Facebook and Twitter and post a photo of themselves having a perfect pie moment and perhaps telling us a little about it. All we ask is that entries are family friendly and the best snap will be announced when we also reveal the World Champion Scotch Pie in January 2018.

Says Scottish Bakers president, Craig McPhie: “Sweet or savoury, hot or cold, veggie or meat-packed? Butchers and bakers up and down the land have been pushing the boundaries of pie perfection for a long time but this year we wanted to see how the public like to enjoy their pies.

“For the first time ever, we are asking pie lovers around the world to show exactly how they like to enjoy their pie by sharing their pie pics!”

Simply follow @ScotchPieAwards on Facebook and Twitter and post your pic.

And in the meantime, butchers and bakers throughout the land have until Tuesday 31st  October 2017 to enter their prized pie creations into the most prestigious pie competition in the land.

With an easy to use website, www.worldchampionshipscotchpieawards.org, to make it quicker than ever for entrants to register their perfect pies, potential prize winners are being urged to enter as wide a range of ‘products at their peak’ than ever before with accolades on offer for the best:

Scotch Pie

Football pies and savouries

Macaroni Pie

Steak Pie

Sausage Roll

Cold savoury

Hot savoury

Vegetarian savoury

Haggis savoury

Bridie

Apple Pie

And The World Championship Scotch Pie Awards is also delighted to announce the return of the popular Macaroni Pie category.

Ian Nelson, head judge, said: “The macaroni pie is a unique Scottish product and last year we wanted to recognise this. The new category was so popular that we have brought it back again.”

Judging for the competition will take place on Wednesday 15th November 2017 and products should be delivered to Carnegie Conference Centre, Halbeath Road, Dunfermline, KY11 8DY between 9.00am and 11.30am on this day.

The winner will be announced at a prestigious luncheon on 9th January 2018 at the Westerwood Hotel, Cumbernauld.

The winner of the Scotch Pie category will be declared as the WORLD CHAMPION.

The competition, which has run for 19 years, aims to highlight that bakers and butchers create high-quality, artisan pastry products.

Recognising the ‘great and the good’ in this way rewards excellence and raises the bar in the industry.

Editors note:

Scottish Bakers was established in 1891 and since then we have represented and promoted the interests of the bakery trade in Scotland.

We aim to be an integral part of each member’s business by providing support for bakers of all sizes.

We provide a valuable source of help, advice, information, assistance and skills development for bakers throughout Scotland.

Scottish Bakers manages both The World Championships Scotch Pie Awards each year and The Scottish Baker of the Year Awards to recognise and celebrate excellence in the sector.

But most importantly, Scottish Bakers belongs to its members, we are all there for their benefit and are proud of our motto, ‘for the good of all’.
