FOR the first time ever, you can get STV News Tonight – with all the Scottish, UK and International news stories – on Facebook Live at 7pm.

STV News Tonight, featuring news anchor, Halla Mohiedeen, is broadcast weeknights on STV2 at 7pm.

The move to stream the landmark, comprehensive news service for Scotland on Facebook Live, as it airs, demonstrates STV’s commitment to further extend its digital news services and innovation on social platforms.

The live streaming has been introduced to enable STV News Tonight to reach an even wider audience, allowing viewers to watch it wherever they are and whatever they’re doing.

Gordon Macmillan, STV head of News, said: “We want to ensure we engage with our viewers on the platforms they use, meeting their needs and suiting their lifestyles.

“Streaming on Facebook Live allows people to watch live news on their mobile devices and ‘on the go’ so we’re delighted to have now made it even easier for them to access our flagship STV2 news programme.”

Nathan Tyler, STV editor of News and Current Affairs, added: “Facebook Live streaming offers viewers the chance to not just watch, but to also instantly have their say on the big stories of the day, interacting with the programme and giving them the chance to be part of the wider STV News community.

“With streaming, our viewers can now be part of STV NewsTonight and interact with Halla and the team whether they are at work, commuting or at home.”

Since its launch in April with the establishment of new channel STV2, STV News Tonight has received extremely positive feedback from viewers.

The warmth of reception that has greeted the programme is highlighted in STV2’s current promotional campaign which features viewers’ complimentary comments and media commentators’ endorsements in outdoor billboard and radio ads.

News is a cornerstone of the programming on STV2, which is the first channel of its kind committed to delivering choice for consumers in Scotland with a unique blend of content as well as its enhanced news service.

In addition to STV News Tonight, the STV2 schedule  includes hourly news bulletins and three dedicated half-hour news programmes at 1300, 1800 and 2200.

The channel has Scotland at its core with an entertaining and diverse mix of local, Scottish and International content. The schedule features a daily live magazine show, programming showcasing key cultural events and local sport, plus top quality drama and entertainment.

Yesterday evening’s STV News Tonight – the first to be streamed simultaneously on Facebook Live – featured coverage of the historic opening of The Queensferry Crossing by Her Majesty The Queen.
