A HIGH-achieving engineering student has been recognised with an industry award.
Peter Haubrick (24), from Stornoway, has been awarded an Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) student prize.
Peter has just completed a BEng (Hons) in mechanical and energy engineering with the University of the Highlands and Islands. He was nominated for the award after achieving the best marks of all the university’s engineering degree students. Peter was presented with a certificate at the Lews Castle College UHI graduation ceremony on Friday 25 August and will also receive two years free membership of the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
The IET is a professional organisation which aims to inspire, inform and influence the global engineering community. It has over 168,000 members in 150 countries around the world. The IET Prize is awarded annually to outstanding students who are completing a course of study accredited by the IET. Winners are nominated by their university based on having shown distinction in their course leading to the award of a first degree.
Speaking about his award, Peter said: “I am delighted and honoured to be chosen for such a prestigious award from an internationally renowned institute.
“It is extremely gratifying to be recognised by the IET and I would like to take this opportunity to convey my heartfelt thanks to all my lecturers and to the staff at the Lews Castle College UHI for their endless help and support throughout my course. I shall always endeavour to work hard and try to further my connection with the IET in future.”

“Peter started as a student on our National Certificate in mechanical engineering and fully grasped the opportunity to progress on to the engineering degree. Graduating with a first-class honours degree is testament to his abilities and hard work and this award is additional recognition for what he has achieved.
