Media release: Paul Holleran swapping NUJ role for post at sister trade union

THE Scottish Organiser of the National Union of Journalists, Paul Holleran, is leaving, for pastures new, at the end of next month.

Paul has been Scottish Organiser with the NUJ since May 1995. His role covers the whole of Scotland and he has responsibility for around 3,000 NUJ members working in newspapers, magazines, broadcasting, politics and PR.

Paul was the NUJ health and safety officer as well and sat on the Scottish Government’s umbrella group for mental health and suicide.

He was also an active member of the cross-party group on media issues.

During his tenure, the union has maintained a high saturation point of membership in the Scottish media, with agreements and pay structures in place with all the main employers in broadcasting and newspapers.

Prior to taking up this post, Paul was an award-winning journalist and has lived in Glasgow for 41 years.

He has worked in publishing since leaving school in 1973.

He was born in 1956 in Liverpool and, on December 4is returning to his home town to work with GMB trade union.

He will have responsibility for health and safety and training for north-west England and Ireland.
