This years’ bumper crop of entries includes a wide range of ‘products at their peak’ with accolades on offer for the best:

Sausage roll

Hot savoury

Vegetarian savoury

Haggis savoury

Bridie

Apple Pie

The winner will be announced at a prestigious luncheon on 9th January 2018 at the Westerwood Hotel, Cumbernauld.

“With a nip in the air and a ‘soggy bottom’ underfoot, customers will be looking for warming flavour-filled snacks and the ever-popular Scotch Pie more than fits the bill,” commented Craig McPhie, president of Scottish Bakers which manages the competition on behalf of The World Championship Scotch Pie Awards.

“And this year the competition promises to be higher profile than ever before as we celebrate the peak of pie perfection.”

This ever-popular competition sees butchers and bakers across Scotland presented with the opportunity to become recognised as producing the highest quality savoury products around the globe with awards given to those producing the best products in each category.

The winner of the Scotch Pie category will be declared as the WORLD CHAMPION.

The competition, which has run for 19 years, aims to highlight that bakers and butchers create high quality artisan pastry products.

Recognising the ‘great and the good’ in this way rewards excellence and raises the bar in the industry.

“The title of World Scotch Pie Champion is highly sought after and this year I am looking forward to seeing for myself some of the best products on the market today and to finding out in January who the judges pick out as having produced something that I know will be world class,” concluded Craig.

A word from our 2017 winner, John Gall of Brownings

“On the 11th January 2017 when Carol Smillie announced Brownings as ‘World Scotch Pie Champion 2017′, I simply could not believe it. I had waited for literally 18 years to hear my name called and it was the best feeling ever.

“The reaction from the local community, all of my team at Brownings, our loyal customers old and new, our family, friends, colleagues within the bakery industry; well, it’s been overwhelming. Everyone within the local community are saying that Brownings winning this amazing accolade has been great news for all the towns and local areas we have shops in. Business has been great since winning too.”
