ONCE again, festive excitement is building for 2017 Scottish and Ethical Fair in Dundee with a host of food, music, song, prizes, surprises, and a huge array of crafts and produce in the giant festive marquee this December from 4-23 with the official opening on Tuesday 5 December at 12 noon.

Special guest TV personality and Fair Trade ambassador, Gail Porter, will be joining The Rt Honourable Lord Provost of Dundee, Ian Borthwick on the podium on Tuesday 5 December 2017 at 12 noon, to launch the Fair with some fun and laughter.

She said: “I am thrilled to be asked to open this great event, wiith so many fantastic Scottish and international stalls offering ethical food and Fair Trade crafts – it is going to be a colourful, lively and fun time!

“I will also be wearing my specially designed World Fair Trade tartan kilt, made by Braw Kilts, and will be taking time to check out the new range of WFTO tartan products available here at the Fair. I have also heard there will be some big festive surprises and prizes to be won so watch out for more on this!”

Alongside Gail Porter, renowned Scottish tenor, Martin Aelred, will be returning to sing some of his own arrangements and festive favourites.

Commenting on his visit, Martin said: “The welcome we received last year was just terrific and that is the sort of community feeling you just can’t buy. It’s a real pleasure to be asked back to Dundee and look forward to sharing some of my new musical work here too.

“At this time of the year, I feel a real responsibility to think of those worst off in the world and through my music aim to bring a little light into people’s lives and I am delighted to add Dundee to my festive tour dates.”

Director and founder of Hand Up Events, Tania Pramschufer said: “This has been an incredible year for Hand Up Events being involved in the first-ever World Fair Trade Tartan with links to both Dehli and Cambodia and we are delighted to return to Dundee, Scotland’s first Fair Trade city, to showcase our ever growing ethical and Scottish produce and craft stalls.

“Local support has been immense, and the Fair has attracted even more local support, designers, artisans and producers from all over the world including one elderly gentleman from the North Pole!

“This year we have exciting local Dundee mural artist Milo Glen showcasing his talented work and entrepreneurial owners of the newly-launched Dundee’s newest contemporary restaurant The White Goose, Lauren Clegg and Calum Runciman.”

Lauren Clegg, local joint owner of The White Goose restaurant, said: “We are hoping to bring a flavour of our new restaurant to a much wider audience and see the Dundee Christmas market as an ideal way to meet potential diners and visitors as they stroll around the fair.

Lauren added: “We will be giving people a chance to ‘meet and greet’ our head chef and joint owner, Calum Runciman, who will be giving tips on festive and winter seasonal cooking, along with some samples for visitors to try so we encourage people to dine out with us.”

There will be around 40 stall holders including The Kilted Fudge Company, Eden Mill Brewery, Damn Fine Cheese, Blue Llama Shop, Lumina Jewellery, Celtic Hart, Fair Trade Scotland, RSPB, The White Goose Restaurant, Vybrid, After the Rain, Isobel Jewellery design, Eclectic Shock, Pieroth Wines, Scottish Wildlife Trust, ACTSA, Gecko Galleries, Me to You, Woodland Trust, Clootie McToot Dumplings, Edin-Burgers, Braw Taste and many more in the giant decorated festive marquee.

Free entry into a prize draw will include prizes of a meal for two at The White Goose Restaurant; entry to Balnuith Farm and a Fair Trade hamper for all those visiting Santa’s Grotto. There will also surprise visits from Santa around the marquee; festive live music; a seated café area and some festive films for the children and warm and festive food and drinks in a fun atmosphere for all to enjoy.
