A LOCAL specialist food store is kicking off its Christmas festivities during a special shopping evening taking place next week.

Inverurie-based family-run business, The Green Grocer, will be welcoming people to its annual festive open night being held on Thursday, 30 November, from 5 to 7.30pm.

The Green Grocer, which has been run by the Sorrie family since 2012, stocks a range of speciality foods from local suppliers, including gluten and dairy-free produce, seasonal fruit and veg and deli products.

The business also supplies customers with vegetable boxes, which are packed in-store using fresh, local produce on a daily basis, and delivered across the North-east.

Local stockists include Ola Oils, Westfield Spelt, Presley & Co of Oldmeldrum, Forbes Raeburn, Kincardine Kitchen, Fine Piece, Campus O’May, Devenick Dairy, Fudge Like, Braes O’Gowrie, and Barra Berries.

The event will see visitors being treated to a selection of Christmas treats including cake, mince meat pies and festive drinks, and customers will be able to take advantage of a 10% discount.

The shop’s popular Christmas cake mixes will be available to buy on the night. Bags include cake ingredients, minus butter and eggs, complete with an easy to follow recipe.

Customers will also be able to place orders for custom made hampers, which will be ready in time for giving as gifts. Hampers can be made to a theme or budget, or people can also choose from a selection of the Green Grocer’s own themed hampers, including a local produce and a gluten free choice.

Children aged five and under, and six to ten, can participate in festive drawing competitions with the chance to win £20 gift vouchers for Strachan’s of Inverurie. The closing date for entries is Saturday, 16 December.

John Sorrie, owner of the Green Grocer, said: “Christmas is fast approaching, and we like to help customers get a head start with their shopping lists in a relaxed environment, whilst supporting local businesses.

“We look forward to welcoming people along on the night, and look forward to marking the start of Christmas at the shop.”
