GLASGOW-based Hello Halo today (Monday 11th December) announces its first CBeebies commission, Junk Rescue, and the appointment of Terri Langan as head of Children’s.

Terri Langan joins Hello Halo with a wealth of experience working for indies and the BBC as a development executive where her commissions included several BAFTA and RTS award-winning CBeebies shows, including Old Jack’s Boat, Swashbuckle, Mr Bloom Here and There, CBeebies Stargazing and brand new series Biggleton.

Terri Langan will report to Wendy Rattray, managing director, Hello Halo, who said: “Terri is a hugely experienced and well-respected children’s exec and I feel privileged to have her join the company. She has the energy and passion to grow an enviable children’s slate for Hello Halo and I look forward to working with her to make that happen.”

On her new role, Langan said: “I’m delighted to be joining such a creative and dynamic company as Hello Halo. I’m looking forward to working with the team to develop original and stand-out children’s content.”

Langan will oversee new commission Junk Rescue, two 15 x 15’ series teaching children about sustainability by showing them that the things we throw away can be turned into something useable.

Presented by Danny Sebastian, Zoe Pocock and their team of Junkyard Helpers at the Junkyard  where day-to-day items and old junk are given a fun, practical, new life.

Combining traditional crafts from across the UK and creative child-led makes, Junk Rescue makes sustainability fun, showing how the things we throw away can be turned into something useable and encouraging our CBeebies audience to take the lead on what they can make from what they find.

“I think the series is the perfect antidote to our throwaway society,” added Langan. “Children can see that just because something is broken, it doesn’t mean it needs to end up as landfill. It can be re-purposed and be useful again.”

Rattray continued: “There has never been a more critical time to teach the children of today about the importance of sustainability. However, the challenge is to deliver that message in a fun and entertaining way that will engage both children and their parents. Junk Rescue is a surprising and uplifting format that I believe will do just that.”

Junk Rescue was commissioned by Kay Benbow, Controller, CBeebies, and Julia Bond, Children’s Commissioning Executive. It is being produced by Hello Halo where the show will be executive produced by Wendy Rattray and Terri Langan and series produced by Alison Gregory.

The first series will TX in spring 2018.
