SIXTY-TWO hand-made quilts, which have been entered in to The Scottish Quilting Competition, will be displayed at The Scottish Quilting Show at the SEC, Glasgow from 8 – 11 March.

The winners of each of the five categories – Traditional, Contemporary, Art, Group (two or more makers for one quilt) and Themed Quilts – will be announced at the show on Sunday March 11 at 3pm.

One of the organisers of the competition, Margo Hunter, says: “Quilting has a long history in Scotland and the country has produced many extremely talented quilters. This annual competition is seen as the highlight of the quilting year in Scotland, by many quilters and we’ve had some amazing entries into this year’s competition.

“It’s a much-loved hobby for many reasons; quilters love making something totally unique, enjoy the needlework itself and the de-stressing benefits of working with their hands and creating something beautiful.

“Often quilts can take over six months to design and create and are given as a gift –for a wedding or the arrival or a baby – while other quilts are displayed as a piece of art and many are donated to charity to raise funds. Occasionally they are sold with prices ranging from £200 to £2000 per quilt.”

The theme category for 2018 is Mackintosh Risen from The Ashes, to coincide with the 150th anniversary of the birth of Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

The Scottish Quilting Show is a fabulous showcase of the finest patchwork and quilting, and highlights the amazing work of Scottish quilters. There will be talks, competitions, demonstrations and workshops – a true patchwork paradise!  It will be co-located with The Creative Craft Show (formerly known at The Stitching Sewing & Hobbycrafts Show), which is a haven for knitting, cross stitch, paper crafting, jewellery & dressmaking and stitching enthusiasts, offering all the very latest supplies, ideas and innovations in the hobby world!

Both shows will be at Glasgow’s SEC on March 8 – 11 bringing together over 100 exhibitors showcasing artisan, handcrafted gifts, supplies and inspiration and demonstrations for crafters and quilters and advice from industry experts.

Opening Hours are 10am – 5pm (4.30pm on Sunday 11th) and ticket prices are Adults: £8.50 advance / £10.50 at the show, Seniors: £7.50 advance / £9.50 at the show. Accompanied under 16s go free. All advanced tickets need to be ordered by 5pm on March 5 2018
