Media release: Moray set to establish community cycling groups

PublicRelationsToUse

COMMUNITY cycling clubs could soon be established in Moray.

Moray Council is working with Cycling UK to set up informal community cycling groups, which could be linked to a workplace, town or village, or by audience, for example families.

To help establish these groups, a Cycle Ride Leader course has been organised to take place on Saturday 21 April at Elgin Community Centre from 9am – 5pm. This course will be free of charge to people who would like to set up and lead these community cycling groups. There are limited places on this course so those keen to apply for a space must commit to leading a group at least once a month. Over and above this course, interested individuals will also have the option to attend a free bike maintenance session and a first aid course.

The main aim of the community cycling groups is to encourage people of all ages and abilities to get back on their bikes or even try the activity for the first time. Although there are a number of well-established cycling clubs operating in Moray, this could be a pathway opportunity for those that may be interested to join these cycling clubs in the future.

Anyone keen to find out more information or to register for the course should contact sports.development@moray.gov.uk or contact 01343 563657.

Famous for its colony of dolphins, fabulous beaches and more malt whisky distilleries than any where else in Scotland, Moray is a thriving area and a great place to live. Nestling between Aberdeenshire and the Highlands, Moray stretches from Tomintoul in the south to the shores of the Moray Firth, from Keith in the east to Brodie Castle in the west.
