Media release: Ofcom appoints Maggie Cunningham and Angelina Fusco to its content board

OFCOM’S content board is a committee of the main Ofcom board. It has delegated, advisory responsibility for a wide range of content issues, including the regulation of television, radio and video-on-demand quality and standards.

The content board provides senior editorial and content experience to Ofcom. Its current members have worked at a range of UK broadcasters, including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, S4C and Sky.

Maggie will represent to Ofcom the interests and opinions of people living in Scotland, while Angelina will act in the same capacity for people in Northern Ireland.

Maggie and Angelina join Ofcom’s content board on three-year terms.

Maggie Cunningham

Maggie Cunningham brings considerable broadcasting experience to Ofcom.

In July 2012, she was appointed chair of MG Alba, the Gaelic-language channel. She previously held a number of senior positions at BBC Scotland, including joint head of programmes and services, and head of radio.

She has also worked as an executive and leadership coach and consultant.

Maggie was chief executive of the Scottish social enterprise charity, Columba 1400, and one of the founding board members of Sistema Scotland, which aims to transform the lives of children through music.

She is also a member of the World War One Scottish Commemorations Panel.

Angelina Fusco

Angelina Fusco is an independent media and journalism training consultant, having been a journalist for more than 40 years.

She spent the majority of her career in the Belfast newsroom of BBC Northern Ireland, working as a journalist, producer, and as editor of newsgathering and BBC Newsline.

In 2012, Angelina was awarded an Ochberg Fellowship on Journalism and Trauma from the Dart Centre, Columbia University, New York.

Angelina is a member of the board of Tourism NI and is on the Northern Ireland Committee of the Heritage Lottery Fund.
