Media release: DC Thomson Media in UK Games Fund Awards collaboration

DC Thomson Media Events is collaborating with the UK Games Fund with the launch of the first-ever UK Games Fund Awards in November.

The awards are expected to capitalise on Dundee’s vibrant games development heritage and future potential in a highly positive way.  With the city being one of the UK’s creative clusters, Dundee is the perfect host to showcase and recognise the achievements of the best of the early stage talent within the UK Games Fund community.

The awards also mean a growth for DC Thomson Media’s portfolio of events, which include the No.1 Amazing Women Awards, The Courier Business Awards and The Menu Food & Drink Awards.  It is hoped that the UK Games Funds Awards will create a useful and informative networking event and stimulate ideas and opportunities for collaboration.

Paul Durrant, founder and chief executive of the UK Games Fund, said: “Dundee was our natural choice to pilot the UK Games Fund Awards. The city’s game development heritage together with its cultural renaissance this year have been key reasons to choose Dundee as the location for this year’s Awards ceremony.”

Shortlisted nominees will be offered the chance to visit Dundee, a particularly exciting year for the city with the opening of the V&A in September, attend a welcome reception at DC Thomson Media’s headquarters in the city, and join the glamourous awards ceremony at the Apex City Quay Hotel.

Paul continues: “We’re offering something different to the well-established and highly-regarded games awards programmes that do a fantastic job already. The UK Games Fund Awards offer us a chance to focus on the talent across the UK’s very early stage games development studios that are part of our community. To celebrate the achievements of these fledgling companies we’re bringing them to a city that has been widely flagged as this year’s hot destination. Our partnership with DC Thomson Media provides a fabulous opportunity to capitalise on Dundee’s games and media legacy.”

Nominations are now open and the awards ceremony takes place on 14th November 2018.

The UK Games Fund and Tranzfuser

The UK Games Fund and Tranzfuser are both run by UK Games Talent and Finance CIC.  We work to support the UK’s early-stage games development community and boost the UK’s games business and talent ecosystem. Our support helps to create jobs, promote diverse new teams, enhance skills and increase the amount of new games IPs in the UK.

The UK Games Fund (UKGF) has a community of over 100 games development companies from across the country, all working on diverse and innovative titles. Our financial and ancillary support offers our community the opportunities to expand and grow as a commercial enterprise that they would otherwise not have.

Tranzfuser is acknowledged as the UK’s only graduate games development talent competition with a direct link to a prototype fund. Competition winners go on to join the UKGF community of funded companies but all participants gain invaluable industry mentoring and experience.
