A READING challenge showcasing books set in Scotland, and those written by Scots and Scottish residents, begins tomorrow.
Open to all readers of school age and above, to complete the Made in Scotland book challenge, Moray Council library members must borrow and read four eligible titles during October and early November.
The selection is plentiful and includes books by David MacPhail, Val McDermid, Ann Cleeves, Alexander McCall Smith, Chae Strathie, Fiona Gibson, Jackie Kay, Janis Mackay, Barry Hutchison, Andrew Symon and many, many more.
It includes books written this year, last year or 150 years ago, and genres such as fantasy, romance, horror and history.
Jane Sandell, senior librarian (Young People’s Services) said the event was a popular feature of the library calendar.
“It began as a challenge for young people but recently we opened it up to adult readers – so now everyone can discover the excellent writing coming out of Scotland these days as well as a wealth of writing from the past. This challenge truly offers something for everyone whatever their preferred genre.”
All children who successfully complete the challenge will be invited to an exclusive author event with Gill Arbuthnott at which they will also be presented with their prize. Adults completing the challenge will be entered into a prize draw.
Made in Scotland runs from 1 October until 10 November and readers can register to take part in any Moray Council library.
