THE first of this year’s prestigious Torc Award winners were announced this afternoon.

Powerful investigations and sporting legends were among the day one winners at the three-day Celtic Media Festival in Aviemore, Scotland.

RTÉ’s Prime Time: Carers in Crisis was named Best Current Affairs programme, while IMG Production’s Scotland ’78: A Love Story, which explores manager, Ally MacLeod, and his team of brilliant footballers who dared to dream, won in Best Sports Documentary category.

The Celtic Media Festival Torc awards celebrate the very best of film, television, radio and interactive media to emerge within the Celtic nations in the past year.

The 40th Celtic Media Festival is fully underway as hundreds of delegates arrive to experience the annual celebration of celtic film, television, radio and digital media.

Promoting the languages and cultures of the Celtic nations and regions, for delegates this is a priceless opportunity to network as they get up close with the biggest names and organisations in the industry.

Catriona Logan, festival director, said: “Today’s categories tell their own story about the incredible diversity of Celtic media: current affairs, radio comedy, sports documentary, animation, entertainment and children’s. And today’s winners demonstrate the quality and excellence achieved by our Celtic content makers. Combined, they tell a powerful story about the inspiring journey of Celtic media in the 40 years since this festival began: this is relevant, authentic, engaging, challenging programme making, now more than ever. Congratulations to the nominees and winners, and welcome to the 40th Celtic Media Festival here in Aviemore, in the heart of the Scottish Highlands.”
