THE Nevis Range Mountain Experience, Fort William, host venue for the multi award-winning UK round of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup, which this year saw an increase of up to 1,000 visitors, has today, 06 June 2019, announced that their successful partnership with Trek Bikes will be extended for another year.

In the past 12 months, Nevis Range and Trek have worked together on a number of initiatives to encourage and develop mountain biking at all levels at Nevis Range, whilst transforming the reach of the home of the Fort William Mountain Bike World Cup into a globally recognised Trek mountain bike destination.

Both partners are keen to develop these projects further, with new initiatives and events scheduled to be announced in the coming months.

In the last year, Trek have supplied Nevis Range with a fleet of mountain bikes, including a number of e-bikes. The e-bikes, in particular, have been vital to the track maintenance team allowing them to quickly reach locations on tracks and trails that have previously been inaccessible to vehicles, improving trail maintenance and development on all 60km of tracks and trails at the venue.

With Trek’s backing, Nevis Range have supported the development of a number of talented young local riders in their quest to become pro downhill racers.

This support has enabled local athlete, Mikayla Parton, to step up from the senior women’s category into Elite Downhill racing for the 2019 race season.

As an incredible ambassador for both Nevis Range and Trek, Mikayla is taking on her first UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup races, some National Downhill races and a number of select Enduro races across the country. With Trek’s continued support, Nevis Range will now be able to expand the opportunities they can offer their local development team.

As a venue partner for such international events as the final round of The European Continental Enduro Series and The WEMBO World Solo 24hr Championships in 2018 and the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup in both 2018 and 2019, Trek have played a huge part in content creation and social sharing across multiple platforms to promote Nevis Range as a world-leading mountain bike destination.

Since June 2018 Nevis Range has seen an increase of over 3,000 mountain bikers using their mountain gondola to access the renowned World Cup Downhill track and the Top Chief black cross country trail. The increased demand from both downhill and cross-country riders has not only enabled the venue to increase the bike season by three months in 2019 – 01 April to 31 October – but also to increase the opening hours of the venue’s facilities.

The partnership with Trek has also allowed Nevis Range to offer ‘Trek led experiences’, which have included a ride out and Q & A with British Enduro racer and former winner of the Mountain Bike World Cup Downhill at Nevis Range, Tracy Moseley. There are plans for similar events, including film screenings, in the coming months.

Nevis Range’s commercial manager, Nikki Stafford, commented: “It has been incredible working with Trek these past 12 months and we are excited to be continuing the partnership and looking forward to seeing it build!  2018 saw a record number of mountain bikers visit Nevis Range and we played host to some fantastic Trek-led experiences. It’s incredible to see the place grow as a true bike destination and our partnership with Trek definitely allows us to do that!

“Nevis Range will continue to bring more world-class sporting events to Fort William and the Trek partnership significantly enhances our ability to achieve our goals!”

Trek Bicycle, a global leader in the design and manufacture of bicycles and related products, began in 1976 with a mission to build the best bikes in the world. Over 40 years later, the brand’s commitment to relentless innovation while honouring this founding principle means that every Trek bike is built to enhance the quality of the ride, and is backed by a history of performance, durability, innovation and precision engineering.

Jez Loftus, Trek’s UK media and PR specialist, said: “What an event! The Fort William World Cup at Nevis Range never fails to surprise and somehow keeps getting better every year, whatever the weather. It’s a totally unforgiving environment and a real test of rider and bike and that’s why we love it so much. The crowds were amazing and it a great place to hang and chat with the fans of the sport, old and new. So good to see so many families enjoying themselves. The atmosphere and the tension of the build-up to finals just can’t be beaten here. What a weekend.

“Nevis Range are the perfect partner for Trek and there’s plenty more coming for 2020 and beyond.”
