Media release: Gillespie Macandrew delivers seventh, consecutive year of growth

Robert Graham-Campbell CEO Gillespie Macandrew

RESULTS from law firm, Gillespie Macandrew, released today (Monday 24 June 2019), confirm the business has achieved a seventh, consecutive year of growth for the year ended 28 February 2019.

With an increase in revenue of 8.3 per cent to £13.0m, the firm’s year-end cash position was also strengthened at £1.3m, against £1m in 2018.

The strong performance was achieved through planned productivity gains and a strategy of organic growth across offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth, including opening new and expanded Glasgow premises at 163 West George Street.

A business which focuses firmly on staff development, Gillespie Macandrew’s Training Academy, which provides training on the transition from senior lawyer to partner, has delivered further success with partner promotions of corporate partner, Chris Gibson, in October and Lianne Lodge in the Private Client and Charities team at the year end.

Chief executive officer, Robert Graham-Campbell, said: “We have delivered a solid set of financial results notwithstanding a challenging political environment and I am pleased to see such positive results from our investment in productivity initiatives during the year.

“Our clients look to us for market-leading expertise and excellent client service and we continue to invest in our business, our people and our IT to deliver this.

“We remain focused on our four core areas of expertise: Land & Rural Business; Energy; Private Client & Tax; and Commercial Real Estate.”

Chair, Fiona Morton, commented: “Throughout 2018 and 2019 we made significant progress, as we look continually at how we can invest to improve our business to benefit our clients.

“These results underpin the strength of the firm and its strategy for growth, and demonstrates our continued progression as a leading law firm with considerable expertise and strength in our sectors.”

Gillespie Macandrew’s CSR programme this year continued its long-standing support of three charity partners: Children in Scotland; the Rock Trust; and Rossie Young People’s Trust.

These charities benefited from a combination of volunteer days by staff, partnering to host training events, or providing pro-bono legal advice, as well as sharing in a £30,000 financial donation from the profits of the firm.

The firm advises clients in land and rural affairs, energy and private client including tax, and has a growing presence in commercial property and corporate business markets.

With offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth, Gillespie Macandrew serves clients from across Scotland and the UK and combines a personal approach alongside sectoral expertise.

Notes for editors:

The firm has offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth and advises on all areas of land and rural business, private client, commercial real estate, tax and disputes.

Partners in Gillespie Macandrew donate a percentage of their pre-tax profits to charity every year – the total donated over the past four years is £109,000.

Staff at Gillespie Macandrew are given a paid day off each year to participate in charitable or corporate and social responsibility events and the firm’s partners and staff spent almost 200 ‘person-days’, working with Rossie Young People’s’ Trust, near Montrose, in the past four years.

Gillespie Macandrew puts a particular focus on the training and expertise of its people and over the last five years the headcount has grown by over 50 per cent to 146, all through organic growth. This is also due to the training academy for staff which has seen five promoted to partnership since it began.
