BBC Scotland’s news and current affairs teams are producing an extensive range of programming to keep audiences up-to-date with all the campaign news and the big breaking stories from the General Election 2019.
The broadcaster has released details of its coverage which will include a TV leaders’ debate and through-the-night reporting and analysis on December 12-13, bringing the results live from right across the country.
Sarah Smith will chair the Scotland Leaders’ Debate in front of an audience with a panel of Scottish party leaders. The hour-long debate on 10 December at 8.00 pm on BBC One Scotland will come from BBC Scotland’s studio at Pacific Quay in Glasgow as the campaign moves up a gear just two days before the country goes to the polls.
In addition to also broadcasting the programme live, the BBC Scotland channel will air a half hour Spin Room show from the venue before the debate. Commentators, including journalists and analysts, will be interviewed in the media room, giving their views on where the debate could be won or lost. The channel’s flagship news programme, The Nine, will have first reaction to the debate from the Spin Room.
A new series of half-hour programmes, presented by Rebecca Curran and Martin Geissler, will run on BBC One Scotland on Mondays and Tuesdays from 18 November from 10.30 – 11.05pm. Reporting Scotland – The Campaign will take a sideways look at how the election is playing out, particularly on social media.
There’ll be three additional editions of Debate Night, the weekly debate programme on the BBC Scotland channel, which ends its current run on November 13. One of the extra shows will be in front of an audience of voters who are all under 30 years-old.
Gordon Brewer will question leading figures from the parties on Sunday Politics Scotland on BBC One Scotland and there’ll be extra editions of Podlitical, the podcast which analyses events through the eyes of BBC Scotland journalists.
This will be the first General Election to be covered by The Nine, and BBC Scotland’s hour-long news programme will be bringing reports, breaking news and analysis from across Scotland and the rest of the United Kingdom throughout the campaign.
On BBC Radio Scotland, Gary Robertson will quiz party leaders in major interviews on Good Morning Scotland. The programme’s team of journalists will be out on the road testing the temperature with voters across the country at outside broadcasts in towns and cities across Scotland.
As ever, BBC Scotland’s General Election 2019 website will be a prime destination for analysis, features and news from the heart of the campaign. Reality Check will be one of the key features where voters can find a wealth of information.
BBC Naidheachdan will bring the Gaelic audience the latest news throughout the campaign with comment and analysis from around the country.
Online, the An Taghadh 2019 index will be published, and for the first time there will be specially commissioned election material on our social media platforms.
On polling day, General Election 2019 – The Results on BBC One Scotland, from 9.55 pm, will be presented by Glenn Campbell with analysis from Brian Taylor plus guests throughout the night. Laura Miller will be mapping out the story with state-of-the-art graphics, Rebecca Curran will bring the latest news as the result roll in and Martin Geissler will be getting the reaction to the big stories from key figures. BBC Scotland will be at every count, ensuring all the key moments are captured as they happen.
The results night coverage on BBC One Scotland will also include The Election Café at Pacific Quay where Nick Sheridan and Fiona Stalker will hear from journalists and other commentators.
The following day, 13 December, Sally Magnusson will take up the story for BBC One Scotland from Westminster as the country digests the results.
Overnight on 12th December, listeners to Radio nan Gaidheal can tune in from 2155 where Donald Morrison and James Macdonald will be joined by a panel and pundits discussing the latest results as they come in.
On Friday 13th December on BBC Alba, An Taghadh 2019, a two hour live special exploring the election result and what this means for Scotland and further afield, will be on air from 7pm.
On BBC Radio Scotland, the through-the-night results programme will be presented by Bill Whiteford and Gillian Marles.
