Media release: Stobbs the Baker’s delivery service helps keep bakery doors open

STOBBS the Baker has always been part of the Ayrshire community and the business is proud to bring quality and traditional baked goods to local retail and wholesale customers.

Several years ago, master baker, Umberto Gilardi, brought his keen business skills and years of experience to the bakery which has gone from strength to strength building on the good reputation and loyalty of customers who know that every Stobbs cake is delicious.

Umberto’s enthusiam, drive and vision have helped to produce a large variety of traditional Scottish and Italian baked goods, including speciality Italian products.

But recent weeks has seen the bakery adapt in ways that even Umberto could not have foreseen.

“We have tried to adapt the business to accommodate our customers during this awful pandemic,” he said. “Normally, we would have ten shops open but since the lockdown we have had to rationalise and now we only have four open.

“That said, our customers are important to us and many of them are now taking advantage of the home delivery and collection services we are now offering which includes a hot menu service too. Hot food is available for home delivery in Ayr and surrounding areas from our Forehill shop, between 8am-2pm, Monday-Saturday.

“Given that our wholesale business halved because restaurants and cafes had to close, it’s a way to both keep our five drivers in work and provide a service for the public.

“We have reached out to many local social media platforms to share our home delivery menu so we can reach isolated and vulnerable people who live outside of towns; with them being advised to only go out once a week for food shopping, we are providing a vital and much appreciated supply of fresh baked goods for them Tuesday to Saturday.

“We are not, by any means, drawing in more than we did before this crisis but it’s keeping the doors open, and, as long as they are, we will try to continue to serve our customers in the best way possible.”
