Media release: Reids raise a smile with key worker gift boxes

Reids

REIDS of Caithness is no ordinary baker. The Thurso-based Scottish Baker of the Year 2017/2018 are known the world over for their shortbread, oaties, groaties®, oatcakes and loaf cakes as well as breads, rolls, morning goods and confectionery.

But, back in March, global reach suddenly meant little as a global pandemic changed the game.

Gary Reid said: “This pandemic is very scary and in these uncertain times we wanted to help the most vulnerable in our community; so, we made two very quick decisions: to support our key workers and to support the most vulnerable in our local community and I would not have it any other way.

“As our cafe and shop have had to close, we are instead offering a delivery service for the community as a whole, not just those self isolating.

“Our customers’ favourite bakery products are being delivered free of charge, six days a week. Customers can choose their own items or pick up a family box which includes a new family steak pie.

“We, at Reids Bakery, would like to pay tribute to all the key workers out there in every sector of industry, who continue to do a wonderful job and play their part in delivering vital services for this country. So, we have donated gift boxes to say thank you to countless organisations, including Wick Fire Station, Riverview Medical Practice, Thor House Day Centre, our local NHS Community Nursing staff and Caithness General Hospital.

“There are many unsung heroes and we salute each and every one of you, along with our wonderful NHS, healthcare, emergency services, transport workers, food industry and all other brave professionals involved in keeping our country running.”
