Media release: Bella Caledonia launches programme, promoting diversity of voices

PublicRelationsToUse

POLITICAL analysis and cultural commentary website, Bella Caledonia, is launching a fully-funded programme, called Many Voices, aiming to give a voice to the ‘unheard, excluded and the marginalised’.

To that end, it is offering a series of commissioning editor positions, to work as part of the Bella team over a four-month period.

Says Bella Caledonia editor, Mike Small: “In the first phase, we have a space to commission six people to work on new projects. Each editor will develop a separate commission to explore a theme. Each person will be funded to carry out their work and have a commissioning budget to also facilitate others from within their emerging networks.

“This might be to work on writing a book, researching a subject, working with a particular community of people, or developing a focused theme over a period of time.”

He added: “This project will give writers and artists the opportunities for a sustained practice of work and experience instead of one-off articles/pieces. Commissioned editors will be supported by Bella in terms of project management and personal support. We will create a support network around Many Voices, with opportunities to share insights and learning within the group. We are working with an advisory board to guide our work.”

Bella is working with the following networks and projects to guide its work: Unbias the News, Gender Media Scotland, Pass the Mic Scotland, and the Scottish BAE Writers Network.

Applications for the first round of are due by the 30th of this month.
