Drive for Doddie

Throughout the weekend, MTX will be raising money for the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, a charity close to the founder, Nicole Scott-McKie’s heart, which raises funds to help research into MND, as well as providing grants to improve the lives of those affected by the disease.

MTX founder, Nicole Scott-McKie, said: “We are delighted to launch our second tournament for 2021, in addition to our women-only event taking place in September.

“The Doddie Drive is set to be a memorable event, playing on two fantastic courses here in St Andrews.

“We already have four further tournaments planned for 2022, all of which have a charity element. We hope that, through our tournaments, we will raise significant funds to support the vital work of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, both for medical research, as well as supporting those affected by the cruel disease.

“One of the founding principles of MTX Golf is to encourage more women to play golf and I hope, by making this event a 50:50 female: male split, this ensures women will be well represented. We look forward to welcoming pairs be it couples, father/daughters, business associates etc, to what promises to be a unique and entertaining weekend.”

For those who want to stay and play, MTX is also holding The Fifer Cup, a six-day event which includes five nights at the iconic Old Course Hotel.

Taking place in September 2021, this tournament is for amateur, female golfers and includes a formal awards dinner where funds will also be raised for the Foundation.

So who will be the first names on the cup? Entries now open at mtxgolf.com/the-doddie-drive-weekend

Notes for editors:

My Name’5 Doddie Foundation

Doddie Weir OBE, founder of the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation is suffering from motor neuron disease.

Doddie has thrown everything at raising awareness of MND to increase research into this debilitating disease.

The Foundation has two aims:

  • To raise funds for research into the causes of MND and investigate potential cures; and
  • To support people with MND and help them to live as fulfilled a life as possible.

The Duke’s Course

The Duke’s Course has the flexibility and challenge to appeal to golfers at every level. Its style ranks alongside the great inland challenges, which demand accuracy and inventive play as well as power golf. It is highly-regarded as one of the finest heathland championship courses in Britain and a must-play course for any golfer. It is located in a spectacular setting above St Andrews and gives a magnificent panoramic view over the surrounding countryside to the sea.

Dumbarnie Links

Dumbarnie Golf Links opened in May 2020 and has already made quite an impact. Just 11 miles south of St Andrews, this true links course was designed not to intimidate the golfer, but rather inspire and elicit anticipation. The exciting design incorporates three potentially driveable par fours and features many thought-provoking holes that engender ‘risk and reward’.

The Doddie Drive package

One round at The Duke’s course and one at Dumbarnie Links, playing Stableford and greensomes respectively. Includes bacon roll, coffee and a snack at the halfway house on both days, as well as numerous fantastic prizes throughout the weekend and, of course, a trophy for the winners. £489+VAT per person.
