Media release: Scottish summer school expands into online education

ISSOS1

AN international summer school company founded in Scotland is expanding into online education to help secondary school students fill learning gaps caused by time missed in school.

ISSOS International has grown steadily since its inception in 2006 to become one of the top international summer school providers, attracting over 600 students from all over the world each summer to its campuses at St Andrews, Cambridge and Yale universities.

ISSOS Online will launch for summer 2021 and will be a permanent addition to the company’s in-person campuses.

The two-week online learning programme will run from 2nd – 16th July and offers students over 50 hours of course content, delivered as a blend of live online classes and pre-loaded learning segments, giving them a choice of study skills, creative writing or business and entrepreneurship (B&E) alongside a range of additional enrichment activities.

The online B&E class also represents the growth of an exciting partnership between ISSOS and another prolific Scottish business, Mick Jackson’s WildHearts, whose award-winning Micro-Tyco Innovate programme will deliver this class for ISSOS Online.

The Coronavirus pandemic meant 2020 was the first year that ISSOS’s campuses did not operate, but the demand for supplementary education from a high number of returning students and new clients has given the business an opportunity to diversify.

Jen Munro, founder and CEO of ISSOS, said: “High school students all over the world faced unprecedented academic challenges in the last year and have missed out on months of vital time in school with their teachers.

“We know from speaking to our alumni that many of them are really worried about falling behind in school and are now feeling underprepared for the move up to university.

“When I saw the effect that the pandemic is having on young people’s schooling I knew we had the expertise to help redress the balance. Our hope is that our online programme allows us to reach even more students around the world, helping to enhance their academic CVs as they prepare for the next level in their education.

“The growing partnership with WildHearts is something that we are really excited about too. We have worked together before at our campus in Cambridge, where Mick guest lectured for our own B&E class about the positive impact that businesses can have. Micro Tyco Innovate is new to ISSOS Online so we’re excited about what it will add for our students.”
