Media release: Media groups partner to host event for the media buying industry

PublicRelationsToUse

FIVE Scottish media groups have come together to host the first joint media owner event for the media buying industry, with the aim of bringing all those working in the sector together in person after more than 18 months of remote working.

Hosted by News Scotland, Bauer Media Group, STV, JCDecaux and Clear Channel, the event will take place at Candy Bar on Edinburgh’s George Street on 28 October.

While primarily a social event to catch up and enjoy each other’s company, each brand will also have a team there to welcome everyone, showcase what they can do, and discuss commercial opportunities.

Historically, each media owner invests significant amounts of money individually, often entertaining the same buyers and clients. However, News Scotland, Bauer, STV, JCDecaux and Clear Channel decided a joint event would better demonstrate the shared commitment to supporting the industry following the Covid-19 pandemic.

All relevant Covid-19 safety guidelines will be followed on the night and those attending are also asked to take a lateral flow test before coming along.

Richard Bogie, managing director of News Scotland, said: “We place immense value on the symbiotic relationships we have with the media buying industry, and we look forward to welcoming friends and colleagues – many of whom we have not seen in person for more than 18 months – to Candy Bar on 28 October for an evening of food, drink, games and good company.”

Matt Allitt, regional commercial director at Bauer Media Group, said: “We’re delighted to be part of this gathering of Scottish media and media buyers, that isn’t on a Teams or Zoom call! It’s a brilliant opportunity to re-connect and celebrate the importance of a thriving media sector in Scotland. This may be the first time in a long time that an event such as this has happened but from a Bauer Media perspective we welcome this spirit of collaboration and hope that it’s the first of many.”

Danielle Kelly, director of strategy and sales Scotland at STV, said: “Our relationship with the media buying industry has continued to thrive as the sector responded quickly to remote working conditions. However, along with our counterparts at other media groups in Scotland, we recognise the enduring significance of face-to-face relationships with buyers and clients, so we’re delighted to be bringing everyone together in one room for the first time.”

Linda Hammond, head of sales Scotland at JCDecaux said: “We are delighted to be a part of this joint collaboration. This unique event gives us the opportunity to bring friends and colleagues from across Scottish media together and to thank everyone for their support over the past 18 months.”

Mary Bradley, agency group head at Clear Channel said: “We value our relationships with the media buying industry in Scotland and it’s been tough not being able to see many of them face to face for 18 months. The collaboration of the five media owners to make this evening happen is a great piece of work. I can’t wait to see everyone in person.”
