AS bakery customers throughout Scotland continue to have their say in the Scottish Baker of the Year Customer Choice category, Scotland’s bakers have put forward their star products and on 16th March a host of industry experts’ will taste test each and every entry at the much-anticipated Scottish Baker of the Year Judging Day in Dunfermline.

This years’ crop of entries includes a wide range of ‘brilliant bakes’ with accolades on offer for the best scones, loaves, savoury items, morning rolls, individual cakes and biscuits as well as the latest categories including French and Danish-style pastries and Free-from bread, biscuits and cakes. And of course, the ultimate prize will be to be crowned Scottish Baker of the Year.

Says Alasdair Smith, chief executive of organisers, Scottish Baker: “Every day in Scotland, we can enjoy a buttery for breakfast, a sandwich made from a fresh loaf for lunch, afternoon tea with mouth-watering sweet treats and a fresh piping hot pie for supper. But the bakers who carefully make the pies, scones, loaves, savouries, morning rolls, individual cakes and biscuits sold in Scotland every day are the hidden gem of our economy and of our culture.”

The competition is now in its tenth year.

Smith adds: “So, after a difficult two years for us all where the resilience, creativity and ingenuity of our members to survive a global pandemic has been tested and not found wanting, we are delighted to give Scottish Bakers the chance to shine and showcase their skills.”

The winners will be announced at a glittering gala dinner at the Hilton in Glasgow on Saturday 7th May 2022.

Please take a Lateral Flow Test before your arrival and remember to wash/sanitise your hands and keep a safe distance from other guests, there is plenty of space.
