Media release: Ready, steady, glow for road safety

GLASGOW runners are being urged to take extra care when out in the darker nights following the end of British Summer Time.

Clocks across the United Kingdom will be set back an hour on Sunday (31st October), and leading specialist running store, Run 4 It, is encouraging joggers to stay safe by wearing reflective clothing when exercising during the winter months.

Staff from the store are leading a free awareness event called the Ronhill Ready, Steady, Glow in Kelvingrove Park on Wednesday 3rd November at 7pm to help running enthusiasts avoid the potential dangers of city running.

The event is open to runners of all ability over the age of 16, and will begin in front of the Park Terrace gates entrance to the park.

Jogscotland manager, Alistair Currie, and the Run 4 It team will lead a 5k run in and around the park and discuss the ways in which runners can increase their visibility to motorists during night-time runs.

Everyone who attends the event will also receive a complimentary high-visibility safety accessory from event sponsors Ronhill and energy product samples a selection of free food and drink to help them perform at their peak.

Duncan Riddoch, managing director of Run 4 It, said: “It’s vital runners ensure they do everything they can to make themselves as visible as possible when they’re out after dark, and high-visibility clothing and accessories are the best way to avoid incidents with road users.

“We’re committed to providing runners with all-round support to help them achieve their potential, from our cutting-edge shoe fitting service to the expert therapy and advice available from Sports Injury Scotland in our Glasgow Bothwell Street store.

“Our Ronhill Ready, Steady, Glow initiative is the natural next step in our efforts to keep Glasgow’s runners healthy and safe, and we’re confident the event will be popular with local people.”

Run 4 It stores stock a full range of high-visibility equipment, from high-visibility bibs and jackets to head-torches and running lights.
