Media release: Pick a piste in the Pyrenees this winter

WITH the ‘world and his wife’ hitting the slopes in the Alps this winter, try something different.

The Hautes Pyrénées has nine ski resorts to choose from and two new tour operators for the 2010-11 ski season.

For a unique winter holiday, the Hautes Pyrénées has nine ski resorts to choose from, boasting a first class lift system with slopes suited to beginners wanting to build their confidence, and intermediate skiers and snowboarders looking for a challenge.

- The Snow Garden resorts of Hautacam and Val Louron are excellent environments for small children learning to ski and snowboard. It is also ideal for Nordic skiers and snow shoers who wish to explore the forest.

- St Lary has been awarded the ‘Family Plus Mountain’ label, meaning it guarantees services and facilities to children.

- Grand Tourmalet is one of the biggest of the resorts offering Freestyle and Freeride areas and the descent from the Pic du Midi, the highest observation platform in Europe.

Ski Collection and La Boutique des Hautes-Pyrénées offer new ways to book your winter holiday this season, providing packages which can include chalets, B8Bs, ski hire, ski lessons, ice waterfall climbing and a range of après ski.

Getting to the Pyrénées is easier than you might think. Ryanair fly from London Stansted  to Tarbes Lourdes and Pau, whilst eastJet provides flights between London Gatwick and Toulouse.
