Media release: Paperino’s West End strikes gold at PAPA Awards

POPULAR Italian restaurant, Paperino’s West End, has struck gold in the Italian Restaurant of the Year Award category in the prestigious Pizza Pasta & Italian Food Association (PAPA) awards.

Mark Billington, managing director of the Glasgow establishment, said: “We’re delighted to win such a coveted award in such a hard-fought category and would like to thank all our staff and customers for making our Byres Road restaurant such a popular success.

“Our West End restaurant has always been popular with lovers of authentic, fresh Italian cuisine and our staff always display a warm, welcoming Italian approach to diners and we accept this award on their behalf.”

Renowned for its traditional Italian cuisine, Paperino’s West End offers an extensive range of pasta, pizza and meat and fish dishes.

Brothers Stefano and Sandro Giovanazzi opened the original Paperino’s in Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow in 1991. Renowned for its traditional Italian cuisine, it quickly established its position as a firm favourite with Glasgow’s Italian community.

Its success was such that sister restaurant, Paperino’s West End, opened at 227 Byres Road five years ago, followed by Paperino’s @ 78 St Vincent Street last June, coinciding with the 75th birthday of Walt Disney’s Donald Duck, from which the restaurants derive their name.

Now in their 21st year, the Pizza Pasta and Italian Food Industry Awards recognise excellence in all aspects of the market, from designing pizzas to manufacturing and selling pasta products. The results were announced at the annual industry gala dinner held at the Lancaster London Hotel in London.
