Media release: We really can ‘mac’ a difference!

ONE of the biggest and most ambitious fundraising campaigns ever mounted by St John’s Shopping Centre in Perth, Scotland, has netted national charity, Macmillan Cancer Support, a whopping £7179.53.

The campaign, which lasted the whole month of September, was entitled ’30 Days to Mac a Difference’ and saw the shopping centre stage a whole series of fundraising events and activities over the 30 day period to generate vital funds for the charity that works to improve the lives of people with cancer.

Fundraising activities included a dedicated charity shop, which opened daily during September, a raffle and a series of ‘virtual’ sporting challenges which were completed by a willing team of volunteers from Perth’s Clydesdale Bank.

The month-long fundraising campaign was substantially longer than any previous fundraising campaign the shopping centre had engaged in and the amount raised is the highest amount ever raised for charity within St John’s Shopping Centre.

Commenting, Siobhan McConnell, centre manager, said: “This was a bold and ambitious fundraising campaign but we were confident we could really ‘mac’ a difference and it’s clear to us that when we pull together, we can!

“Last year, we raised £3250 for Comic Relief so we’ve more than doubled our impact with this campaign and I’m extremely grateful to what can only be described as a small army of volunteers who gave up their time to run the shop and to take part in the physical challenges.

“Finally, the generosity of the Perth public has never failed to deliver and to them we extend our thanks and sincere gratitude.”
