THOUSANDS of Scots are amongst those whose festive holiday plans will be casualties of the current big freeze; however, all is not lost.
Hotels throughout Scotland may still have some vacancies, boosted by cancellations from south of the Border.
Says a spokesperson: “Scottish tourism is well prepared for severe weather and none more so than Crieff Hydro.
“Even in this exceptional cold snap, the 900-acre estate is able to keep things moving for their guests. With a fleet of Land Rovers, and their own snow ploughs and gritters, the focus is on keeping side roads clear and providing shuttle services for guests who would prefer not to use their car in tricky conditions.
“Crieff Hydro Land Rovers can be seen collecting guests from nearby stations and airports or simply providing a courtesy service around the estate, or to and from the nearby town.
“The Crieff Hydro Estate is a great place for relaxation in any weather.”
‘Most-weather’ outdoor activities include 4×4 driving, horse riding, quad biking and Segways.
If you don’t want to venture outside there are over 40 different indoor activities from the spa and leisure facilities through to an indoor sports hall that hosts football, badminton and squash.
There’s even a teen zone with pool, air hockey and the well known cinema available to guests at no extra charge.
While there’s snow on the ground enjoy some of the accessible countryside for sledging, or take a short ramble up the Knock with its breathtaking views of the surrounding Perthshire countryside.
As the hotel has its own organ, there’s no need to venture out in the cold as the staff host their own carol service.
The hotel’s childcare facility, ‘BIG Country’, remains open right through the festive season offering six hours daily free childcare for over-two’s. A crèche is also on offer for younger ones, and, as if that wasn’t enough, the hotel also offer a babysitting service.
Due to cancellations from south of the border, the resort now has availability again for their famous festive packages. These feature two or three night all-inclusive packages with a packed programme of entertainment for all the family, including Santa’s ‘reinhorses’ and traditional ceilidh dancing (and lessons).
A small number of hotel rooms are available from £140 per person for two nights all-inclusive over the festive period.
Most of the 54 self-catering units are spoken for, but again due to cancellations, there are some specific opportunities to sample this accommodation from £499 for three nights, sleeping five.
