Media release: CM Porter Novelli ‘bears’ it all for Edinburgh Zoo

LEADING Scottish PR company, CM Porter Novelli, has been appointed by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, owners of Edinburgh Zoo, to handle media relations for the journey of two giant pandas being gifted by China this year.

After being called in over the Christmas holidays, CM Porter Novelli stage-managed simultaneous media calls in Edinburgh and London at the time the historic agreement was signed by RZSS and the Chinese Wildlife Conservation Association (CWCA).

Witnessed by deputy prime minister, Nick Clegg and Chinese vice premier, Li Keqiang, the resulting announcement achieved worldwide coverage.

Speaking about the appointment, managing director of CM Porter Novelli, Angela Casey, comments: “What a way to start the year!

“The team was ‘all hands on deck’ from before New Year and through the very high profile announcement last week. Now on board until the giant pandas arrive, we are really looking forward to a busy 2011.”

The project for Edinburgh Zoo fits well into CM Porter Novelli’s portfolio which includes major tourism providers and public affairs clients including VisitScotland; Our Dynamic Earth; and Edinburgh’s Christmas.
