Media release: Go Metropolitan this Burns Night!

DINERS are being invited to go metropolitan this Burns Night as Metropolitan cocktail bar and restaurant in Merchant Square, in the heart of Glasgow’s historic Merchant City, offers a special Burns Night menu for Tuesday 25th January.

Metropolitan manager, Darren Scott, said: “Conceived by head chef, Brian Hannah, our Burns Night menu reflects Metropolitan’s specialism in locally-sourced Scottish a la carte at affordable prices.

“Of course it would be incomplete without the traditional neeps and tatties – though we have given this dish our own distinctive Metropolitan twist of Buccleuch haggis served with turnip and thyme puree, mustard mash, buttered wild kale and a whisky jus.”

Metropolitan’s three course £21.95 Burns Night menu, including a dram of whisky, offers starters of: homemade Scotch broth served with crusty bread; pheasant and wild mushroom terrine with seasonal leaves, dark cherry and apricot chutney and Arran oatcakes; steamed West Coast mussels in a whisky cream sauce and assiette of Scottish seafood – smoked salmon, rollmops, crayfish, lobster and clams.

Mains include: Buccleuch haggis served with turnip and thyme puree, mustard mash, buttered wild kale and a whisky jus (vegetarian option available); chicken stuffed with black pudding, smoked bacon, sage dauphinoise and a thyme jus; fillet of hot smoked salmon with new potatoes, sugar snap peas and a white wine sauce and a 6oz Scottish rib-eye steak, grilled flat cap mushroom, beef tomato, onion rings, Maris Piper chips and peppercorn sauce.

Desserts, meanwhile, include: Clootie dumpling with brandy and vanilla sauce; raspberry cranachan; double chocolate mousse with mixed berry compote and a selection of dairy ice creams.

Located on Candleriggs at the heart of the Merchant City, Glasgow’s cultural, fashion and food quarter, Merchant Square offers an eclectic selection of restaurants and cafes. Once part of the old Glasgow Fruit Market, Merchant Square is imbued with the history of the area’s dominating Victorian architecture, although today this sense of history blends seamlessly with the distinctly cosmopolitan ambiance that pervades the surrounding cobbled streets that bring the outside in.
