CAIRN Estate and Letting Agency has uncovered what it believes to be a severe shortage of student digs in Edinburgh.

Says a spokesperson: “At a recent accommodation fair at Heriot-Watt University, Cairn staff were taken aback when its stand was inundated by students desperately seeking flats to rent in the capital.”

Susan Collins, head of lettings at Cairn, said: “We suspected that there was a healthy level of demand for student accommodation in Edinburgh but had not anticipated anything like the level of demand we uncovered!

“At the event, we received over 150 enquiry forms from students looking for flats.

“If you extrapolate that figure throughout Edinburgh’s other further education establishments, then we are talking about a significant shortage of student accommodation.

“Consequently, we are issuing an urgent appeal to any Edinburgh-based landlords to contact us to help meet that demand.”

Adds the spokesperson: “But the shortage is not confined to the capital. Indeed, whilst it is thought to be most pronounced in Edinburgh, Cairn also suspects significant shortages of student accommodation in Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee and Stirling and is advising landlords to proactively target the student market.”

Cairn, a specialist in HMO (Houses in Multiple Occupation) and student accommodation, is much more than ‘just an estate agent’. In fact it is the only agent that sells investment properties, lets flats, penthouses, homes or student flats, adds value by undertaking repair works, has a database of clients seeking access to buy to lets and property portfolios and sources properties for clients, whether homes or student flats.
