OPIUM, which has opened in the heart of Glasgow city centre at 191 Hope Street, brings premier oriental fusion cuisine to Glasgow for the first time.

Mixing exquisite traditional dim sum with fusion dishes from Malaysia, Singapore, China and Thailand, Opium offers customers an oriental dining experience simply unavailable elsewhere in the city.

Dinu Li, head of Operations at Opium, said: “Our head chef, Kwan Yu Lee, has created a menu for Opium that reflects all of his experiences and abilities. Lee, who is ‘old school’ trained, worked his way up from humble beginnings as a 16 year-old apprentice alongside master chefs in Hong Kong.

“Having learned the classical foundations of Chinese cooking, Lee was determined to take his culinary skills to new heights and moved to the UK. Absorbing techniques, ideas and ingredients from across the Far East, he now introduces his skills to Scotland for the first time.”

Opium’s extensive selection of steamed and fried dim sum (small eats) is arguably its specialty. The menu includes such delicious delicacies as: har gau; Shanghai siew lung bun; pan-fried mooli cake; sichuan won ton and chilli salt and pepper squid.

Main dishes include: steamed sea bass; monk fish clay pot; Thai red snapper; Kung pao chicken; Hong Kong beef flank in clay pot; roast duck with ginger and pineapple; braised aubergine and morinaga tofu and three vegetables and tofu with macadamia nuts.

Close to the business district and to the shops, Opium is the ideal place for a working lunch or to catch up with friends during a shopping trip. As night falls, its interior transforms, creating an inviting setting that is perfect for an intimate dinner or a celebration with family and friends.

The perfect place to enjoy a cool cocktail or glass of wine with friends or family, Opium has a diverse range of fine wines, beers, spirits, exotic cocktails, champagnes and soft drinks, all carefully selected to complement its dishes.
