SOUTHSIDERS are being urged to go back to 1901 this Easter to witness the grilling of a Glasgow institution.

The long-established 1901 at 1534 Pollokshaws Road on Glasgow’s southside has transformed itself from a bar and bistro into a bar and grill.

The popular outlet has undergone a comprehensive redesign and refurbishment as part of a significant investment that has seen the installation of contemporary new signage, the introduction of a new management team and a new menu.

Rebranded as 1901 Bar & Grill following the introduction of a new kitchen and modern furnishings and fittings, the all-new 1901 is all set to enter a new era as the leading quality gastro pub in the southside.

Christopher Queen, general manager, said: “1901 has always been a firm-favourite with southsiders in search of some good company, some entertainment a broad selection of refreshments and great food at good value but we feel that the time is now right to up the ante, refresh our offering and introduce the first grill to the southside.

“We’re delighted with the results and, judging from the feedback from our regulars, they’re happy too!”

Whilst the bar will continue to serve up a broad selection of premium lagers, cask ales, malts and wines, the new grill will now offer a menu comprised entirely of freshly prepared meals, with a focus on fresh cuts of prime, 28-day Aberdeen Angus beef.

Other specialities on the menu include: braised lamb shank; marinated free range chicken breast; fresh sea bass fillets; marinated Barberry duck breast and the famous 1901 Roast of the Day.

And now there’s something on every day of the week at 1901: Monday night is poker night; Tuesday night is quiz night; Wednesday night features live football; Thursday night is open mic night while The George Lindsay Band perform on the last Friday of every month. There’s a live band on Saturday too while the ‘Sunday Service’ features live music from ‘Acoustic Butterfly’.

In addition to the new grill offering delicious fresh food, the bar at 1901 serves up a broad selection of premium lagers, cask ales, malts and wines.

1901 won the best individual bar/pub award in the Best Employers in Hospitality 2010.
