PRESTIGE the Laundry is inviting charities to drop off their mucky mascots for a spring clean, free of charge.
The unusual offer comes from Marilyn Wallen who has been running Prestige the Laundry in Great Western Road, Aberdeen, since last autumn.
“We are busy helping people with their spring cleaning by cleaning curtains and rugs and duvets so we thought we would like to offer this free service to the charity mascots in the city and shire,” she said.
She had heard that mascots can get very grubby and smelly since some are quite heavy and act as a mini sauna for the wearer.
“They aren’t the kind of thing you can put through a domestic washing machine but our state-of-the art equipment will be able to deal with them.”
Prestige the Laundry already offers several services tailor-made to help customers, including collection and drop off from home or office, an after-hours collection facility, dry and fold laundry, ironing and post-holiday wash. But the mucky mascot one must be the most original, to date.
Group manager, Ally Birkett of Grampian Fire and Rescue Service, said: “Blaze Bear does a lot of work in support of the Firefighters Charity, making public appearances across the North-East of Scotland.
“He’s been dancing and waving his way through sun and snow at all sorts of local events for a number of years now, and his friends in Grampian Fire and Rescue Service know that he doesn’t get the chance to hibernate through the winter months and spruce up his fur coat.
“The offer from Prestige the Laundry to give him a bit of pampering will be greatly welcomed, particularly by his closest Firefighter friends who know his inside story.”
Any charity, or organisation with a mascot which is used to raise money for charity, should contact Marilyn on 01224 326091.
