Media Release: Etape Caledonia sales hit record high as 2010 places sell out

OVER 4,500 cyclists have signed up to take part in the 2010 Macmillan Cancer Support Etape Caledonia, taking the event to a new record high and demonstrating an increase of almost 50 per cent on last year’s figures.

The event, which is now in its fourth year, has grown in popularity every year since its inception and aims to raise a massive £430,000 for the title charity, Macmillan Cancer Support.

Jo Dytch, event organiser with IMG, commented: “These results are extremely exciting – the demand for places this year has been strong with more than double the number of cyclists fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support than last year. It’s going to be a very busy weekend in Highland Perthshire.

“With almost 5,000 cyclists coming into the area, many accompanied by friends and families, this is a welcome boost to the local economy.”

Macmillan Cancer Support raised over £380,000 from their involvement with the event in 2009 and are hoping to beat that target in 2010.

Craig Fordham, events manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, commented: “Following the staggering success of this year’s event, we are absolutely thrilled that 4500 places in the 2010 Macmillan Cancer Support Etape Caledonia have already filled, and we are particularly excited about the 2,000 cyclists who have joined Team Macmillan and will be taking part to raise much needed funds for the charity.”
