Media Release: Speed networking in Forres for RAF personnel

ANOTHER exciting opportunity has arisen for RAF personnel in Moray to meet potential employers from the area next week.

The speed networking event follows on from three similar recruitment sessions held over the last two years which led to the local employment of a number of personnel due to leave the service.

The event will take place at Horizon Scotland, Forres Enterprise Park, on Wednesday September 17, from 5:45 to 9pm. Twelve businesses are expected to attend as well as 120 RAF leavers hoping to sell their skills to local businesses.

The event is being organised by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) Task Force team based in Forres, established to mitigate the local impact of redundancies within the service.

The Moray 2020 Strategy was produced in light of announcements about significant reductions in the workforce at the two RAF bases in Moray – at Kinloss and Lossiemouth. The vision for Moray 2020 includes developing the people so that they can achieve their potential to contribute to the economy and the community, in particular helping those leaving the RAF to find rewarding long term futures in Moray.

During the course of the evening employers and RAF leavers will go through mini-interviews and within a few minutes of talking to someone new, it will be possible to work out whether there is a possibility of a future business relationship.

Paul Hughes, development manager ar HIE’s area team based in Forres, said: “We hope to continue on the success of the last three speed networking events from which a number of strong contacts were made, and several RAF leavers found jobs as a result. There are so many highly trained and skilled individuals currently leaving the service locally and most of these want to stay in Moray. We work very closely with the RAF to make sure that these leavers find positive outcomes in their search for a new career.”

“These events are great as they provide a structured environment in which individuals can talk to people that they wouldn’t otherwise have met.”

The companies that have confirmed to attend the evening include: BAE Systems, Leith’s, Grampian Police, Northern Constabulary, Buckie Shipyard, Moray Council and FRA Aviation, Gordonstoun School, McPherson Ltd and Scottish Electronics International Ltd.

Businesses an RAF leavers wishing to attend should register on 0800 032 800.
