Media Release: High-tech radios make Braehead Shopping Centre safer

THE latest hi-tech digital radio technology is being introduced into Braehead to make the shopping centre even more safe and crime-free.

Braehead, near Glasgow, is one of the first shopping centres in Britain to introduce a secure digital communication system.

The new radio system – with a specific Shop Link Channel – means retailers can now directly contact the shopping centre’s control room, other shops and police officers patrolling the malls alerting them to any incidents.

The digital technology also stops criminals eavesdropping on conversations between security staff using radio scanners.

Braehead’s external operations co-ordinator, Paul Lucas said: “This new digital radio system will make a big difference making sure that we are able to react even quicker than before to any incidents.

“It will enhance public safety in Braehead, help in missing persons searches and make it harder for shoplifters to operate in the centre.

“Retailers having a direct voice link with our control room, to police officers on patrol – who themselves can monitor the Shop Link Channel – and each other will be an advantage not only to the shops, but the public in general.”

Paul added: “We do all we can to make sure the people working and shopping in Braehead can do so in a safe, secure and comfortable environment.”
