Media Release: Get Active Loch Lomond festival 14-15 June 2008

ONE of the most exciting new events in Scotland, based at Loch Lomond, the Get Active festival is now in its fourth year, with a host of new activities planned over the weekend.

Canoeing, mountain biking, wakeboarding, power-kiting, abseiling, climbing, a 10K Race and even an invitation to join an evening canoe trip are just some of the outdoor activities on offer.

Get Active Loch Lomond not only allows people to try a new activity for the very first time, but it also makes full use of some of the UK’s most incredible scenery, whilst experiencing one of the most famous inland lochs in the world. It will also give newcomers to the National Park an insight into the diverse wildlife and plant life of this beautiful area. With many of the activities FREE of charge, there’s no excuse not to ‘Get Active’ this summer!

There are activities for all ages and all energy and fitness levels – from gentle walks along the lochside to adrenalin charged abseiling from Drumkinnon Tower!

This year’s walking programme has been expanded with many new guided and self-guided walks, often using boats on the Loch as transport for part of the walk. One walk even leads you to the famous Charles Rennie Mackintosh Hill House where coffee, cake and an exclusive guided tour await you, and another allows you to learn to fly birds of prey as part of the experience.

For nature lovers with kids, get involved in our bushcraft displays and workshops, or enjoy taking the kids mini-beasting, and pond dipping with our special ‘explorer packs’ to learn a bit more about our natural environment.

Bird lovers will enjoy a special bird watching guided walk, accompanied by a specialist from the RSPB, with a short boat trip included.

Adrenalin lovers will enjoy the spectacular mountain bike displays, wakeboarding, power kiting, and abseiling from a height of 120 feet. And, for the really fit, the Polaroid Eyewear 10K Race takes place on Sunday 15 June.
