Media Release: Curry King brews up business deal with Noah Beers

SECRET Millionaire, ‘Curry King’, Charan Gill, knows a good business opportunity when it is presented to him.

Renowned entrepreneur, Mr Gill has joined forces with German, Petra Wetzel, and has become a shareholder and non-executive director in her company, Noah Beers, named after her son.

Noah Beers purchased the business and assets from West Brewing Company when it went into administration in early February 2008 and ensured the business continued to trade as WEST from its base on Glasgow Green. The full production brewery is also home to a 440-seater beer hall and restaurant.

Mr Gill said: “As soon as I walked into the beer hall I was smitten – the bar has such a great atmosphere; there was a great buzz about the place.

“Apart from the great bar and restaurant, what attracted me to invest in WEST was the fantastic quality of its product range. There are plenty of Scottish ales available but no other premium Scottish lager so there is a real gap in the market and WEST offers a local, exciting product.”

Styling itself on the beers of Bavaria, WEST’s products are the only beers in the UK that meet the Reinheitsgebot; German legislation which ensures only the finest, purest beer is deemed fit for consumption.

“Petra’s enthusiasm is infectious – she really believes in her product and we work well together,” said Mr Gill.

“I feel that my experience in the hospitality sector can contribute to the success of the company and already, we have had friends visiting the bar who didn’t even known the place existed and can’t believe that such a gem could exist in the East End of Glasgow. So much so, that our on-trade figures for this year are already 30 per cent up on last year’s figures.”

Ms Wetzel said: “With Charan on board, WEST will go from strength to strength and we have big plans for the future of the brand.

“Whilst we plan to launch a range of premium bottled lagers this summer, we are also currently busy closing deals with major publicans and restaurateurs who are being very supportive and recognise the importance of the brewery as a local Glasgow brand. Many have already committed to sell the draught products in their establishments.”

WEST- brewery, bar and restaurant is open seven days a week, 11am till 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 11am to midnight Friday and Saturday. Brewery tours are available by arrangement.
