Media Release: Conference to argue events bring Scotland cultural and economic prosperity

ATTRACTING major sport and cultural events to Scotland is more important than ever for the Scottish economy, to boost the feel good factor among Scots and to heighten the visibility of the country abroad.

That’s the message David Williams, the outgoing CEO of EventScotland, will be emphasising at the inaugural National Events Conference to be staged on 6th March at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow.

Around 300 delegates will hear a string of high profile speakers, including Paul Deighton (CEO of the London Organising Committee of the 2012 Olympic Games), Patricia Ferguson (MSP, Minister for Tourism Culture and Sport) and Jonathan Mills (Festival director, Edinburgh International Festival), air their views on the opportunities and challenges to be faced as Scotland strives to become one of the world’s foremost events destination by 2015.
