Media Release: Scotland leads the world with launch of self-regulatory scheme for fundraising

SCOTLAND and the UK are to become the first nations in the world to regulate giving to charity.

From the collection tin to the large donation, from the raffle ticket to the sponsored run, all charity giving will now be monitored and regulated. This will ensure our financial generosity to
thousands of good causes will be done knowing the money is raised in an open and fair, honest and legal way.

To date, nowhere in the world has had a self-regulation body which sets and demands high standards from the process of collecting charity money. As of today, 12 February 2007, Scotland has just such an organisation in the Fundraising Standards Board.

Charities and fundraising organisations that sign up to the scheme get to use the Fundraising Standards Board’s logo – a big tick – to demonstrate their commitment to being open and fair, honest and legal in how they go about raising money for the work they do.
