Media Release: Tony Judd’s new development role

AUSTRALIAN, Tony Judd, former national coach to Scotland’s cricketers, has taken on a new role as the West District Club Development Manager, with immediate effect.

For the past six years, he has been working on behalf of Greenock Cricket Club to raise the profile of the sport among the schoolchildren of Inverclyde, building a strong and successful club as head coach.

Then, in a part-time capacity, he also guided the Scots through their first two seasons playing competitively against the English Counties in the National League.

Now, he will head the development team of full-time and volunteer coaches in the west of Scotland, working with local clubs and building partnerships with local authorities and others. His brief will be to develop and support the clubs in the west of Scotland.

Peter Steindl, Cricket Scotland’s head of development, said: “We are fortunate to have acquired the services of such an experienced and charismatic figure as Tony Judd, who has a tremendous reputation for developing cricket both here in Scotland in his native Australia.

“Tony’s excellent track record in club development is a sign of Cricket Scotland’s commitment to supporting our clubs and creating a successful grassroots network across the west of Scotland.

“Tony will hit the ground running in this new role, because there is a lot to be done in what remains of the winter period to prepare for the new season.”

Tony Judd himself added: “This is a great opportunity for me, and a fresh boost to my enthusiasm for the sport. There is a huge pool of talent coming through in the west of Scotland, and I am determined that as many as possible of these youngsters will get the opportunity to play in a strong club structure.”
