Media Release: Edinburgh’s young leaders win Third World award

AT the JCI World Congress in Vienna, Edinburgh Junior Chamber of
Commerce (EJCC) was confirmed as the Most Outstanding Chamber in the
World for 2005. Eight delegates attended the week-long conference in
Vienna and all were invited on stage to collect the trophy from JCI
World President, Kevin Cullinane. Over 5,000 JCI chapters are eligible
for this annual award.

EJCC president, Brian Turnbull, commented: “What is remarkable about
Friday’s announcement is that this completes the hat-trick, being the
third year in a row that we have received this award. It is fair to say
that, within the worldwide JCI organisation, Scotland is now regarded as
being at the forefront of action to encourage young business people to
be active citizens. This award recognises EJCC’s aim to act local and
think global, in business and society.

The 100 members in Edinburgh’s Junior Chamber have now been invited to
bid to host JCI’s European Convention in 2009. This event would attract
over 2,000 young entrepreneurs from across Europe (and beyond) to the
City of Edinburgh. Over the course of the week, delegates would
undertake business training, interact with Scottish companies at the
convention trade show and hear keynote speeches from world leaders in
business, politics and international relations. EJCC Board Members are
hoping to set-up immediate meetings with key agencies in the city to
discuss the feasibility of the event and how to maximise the promotion
of the City during the bid process.

A congratulatory motion in the Scottish Parliament has been tabled by
Sarah Boyack MSP today.
